Test laboratory

The testing laboratory is an accredited testing laboratory by DAkkS in accordance with DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018. The accreditation is only valid for the scope of accreditation listed in the certificate annex D-PL-17639-01-00.

The scope includes test methods of the harmonised standards EN 12899-1, EN 12899-3 and EN 1423 as well as EAD 120001-01-01.06.

Testing according to harmonized European standards

EN 12899-1 covers fixed, vertical road traffic signs, including their supports. EN 12899-3 applies to delineators and their retroreflectors. EN 1423 standardizes the drop on materials for road marking materials, consisting of glass beads and translucent and opaque antiskid aggregates. EAD 120001-01-0106 describes the requirements and test methods for microprismatic retroreflective sheetings for fixed, vertical road traffic signs.

The aim of testing according to these standards is to test the product in order to obtain the CE conformity mark.

Testing according to national regulations

Further testing activities are carried out in accordance with national requirements.

On behalf of Güteschutzgemeinschaft Verkehrszeichen und Verkehrseinrichtungen e.V. (GVZ), the tests are carried out according to the Gütesicherung RAL-GZ 628. Tested and approved traffic sign manufacturers can mark their products with the RAL-Gütezeichen.

The guidelines for the proof of qualification for work zone securing on roads of the IVSt work zone securing department are the basis for the examination of the quality standards of the specialist companies for road safety. The certification is also carried out by StrAus-Zert.

According to the Additional Technical Contract Conditions and Guidelines for Markings on Roads, Edition 2013, (ZTV M 13) (Zusätzliche Technische Vertragsbedingungen und Richtlinien für Markierungen auf Straßen, Ausgabe 2013, (ZTV M 13)), only companies whose machines and equipment and whose personnel can prove that they meet the requirements specified in the ZTV M may be commissioned to apply final road markings. StrAus-Zert carries out the testing and certification of the qualifications of these companies.

For companies that do not have a self-propelled ride-on marking machine, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (Bundesministerium für Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur) has made the following provisions in Allgemeines Rundschreiben (ARS) Nr. 25/2016:
“Marking companies that only carry out work on a smaller scale (less than 1000 metres in length), for example in municipal areas, do not require self-propelled ride-on marking machines (see Section 6.2 of ZTV M 13). However, without such a marking machine, these companies have not been able to obtain a qualification certificate in accordance with Section 11 in conjunction with Annex 8 of ZTV M 13 and were therefore not allowed to be commissioned to carry out marking work within the scope of ZTV M 13. The bodies designated in Section 11 ZTV M 13 in conjunction with ARS 13/2015 can now issue marking companies without self-propelled ride-on marking machines a qualification attestation in accordance with the appendix to this ARS, provided that all other requirements in accordance with Section 11 and Appendix 8 of ZTV M 13 are met. This attestation authorizes the carrying out of small-scale marking work. This attestation also authorizes the installation of prefabricated marking systems without route restrictions."
As a notified body for road markings under the EU Construction Products Regulation, StrAus-Zert is authorized to issue corresponding qualification attestations. You can download the request for carrying out the inspection as part of a qualification certificate for smaller-scale work in accordance with ZTV M 13 in conjunction with ARS No. 25/2016 here: [PDF]
